Hi, I’m Malcolm Dow, and this website is about The Roaring Mouse, my small website design, construction, hosting and promotion, print, online and video publishing, and counselling business.
I live in Williamstown, Victoria, Australia, where my wife Diana and I are pastors of Williamstown Baptist Church and directors of the Beth Tephillah Ministry Centre and the Beth Tephillah Simple Church Network. I also run The Roaring Mouse, a small business specialising in website design, construction and hosting, video, print and Internet publishing, electronic research and construction, and lifestyle consultation and counselling. The name is inspired by Leonard Wibberly’s book and the wonderful Peter Sellers’ film The Mouse that Roared. The emphasis of the story, and my business, is power to the little guy. My main focus is on enabling Christians and the church to use the Internet more effectively.
I have degrees in Mathematics from RMIT University, Master of Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Victoria University, and Theology (Hons) from Whitley College/Melbourne College of Divinity (University of Melbourne)
My first job was as a design draftsman with the Commonwealth Department of Civil Aviation – now the Department of Transport and Regional Services, where I helped to build and commission Tullamarine Airport and worked on projects such as the Autophon Information System and the Interscan Automatic Landing System.
After 13 years of this I went to Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) Division of Manufacturing Technology as a technical officer, doing research into robotics and vision systems. This is now CSIRO Complex Systems Integration (CCSI). I was part of the small team that developed Australia’s first flexible manufacturing cell – integrating several industrial robots, a CNC milling machine and an Automatix vision processing system into a cell capable of multi tasking and rapid changeover of jobs, I also worked on the Bionic Ear Project and a camera and vision system for the Australia Telescope.
Next I became a lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer Technology at Victoria University, teaching computer programming, microprocessor technology, computer aided design and artificial intelligence. My research specialisation was in artificial intelligence, expert systems, robotics and speech recognition systems.
In 1997 I left the university, and my wife Diana and I became pastors of Williamstown Baptist Church and directors of the Beth Tephillah Ministry Centre, while I started Roaring-Mouse.com.
Diana and I have been involved in prayer ministry and prayer counselling since 1990, having trained with Wholeness through Christ Australia, Elijah House Australia, Sonrise Family Ministries, Beth Tephillah Ministries and Anazao. We also head up Hobsons Bay Intercessors, under the covering of the pastors of Hobsons Bay Churches, having trained with and been founder members of Intercessors for Melbourne. We have recently become the Melbourne Western Suburbs Regional Team for Oikos, an Australia wide simple/house church friendship network.
My main relaxation interests are reading, writing, blogging, music (I’m a keyboard player), and amateur radio. I have held an Amateur Radio Operator’s Licence for over 40 years, was VK3ZDD for many years, and now hold the advanced callsign VK3HL. I’m a member of the Wireless Institute of Australia– Victorian Division, the Radio Society of Great Britain, and the American Radio Relay League.
